Catholic Transubstantiation

Since I am not Catholic, I will first explain how this has been explained to me. Transubstantiation occurs during the celebration of the Eucharist or Lord's Supper. When the Officiant blesses the wine and bread, it is transformed into the blood and flesh of Jesus, which the faithful Catholics in the congregation then consume. This is taken from the scriptures where Jesus is taking the bread and cup after celebrating the Passover and declaring that "this is my body" and "this is my blood."

Ok, now, I know that the Catholic Church takes the stand that Jesus had performed a miracle and had literally changed the bread and wine into flesh and blood, but this cannot be the case.

Why?

Because Jesus was the Messiah. The biggest requirement for the Messiah to fulfill is not sinning. Well, what is a sin? How does God define a sin? God defines a sin as breaking ANY of the 613 commandments given in the Torah at ANY point in our lives. Most people are familiar with the dietary requirements of Kosher, but if you are not, then I will summarize. A land animal must both chew the cud and have a cloven hoof, a water creature must have both fins and scales, and there is a list of unclean birds. God also expressly forbids consuming the blood of any creature. One other commandment is to not cause another to fall into sin.

Jesus could not have commanded his disciples to consume human flesh (which is unclean as food) or drink blood without causing them to sin, and therefore sinning himself and disqualifying himself as the Messiah. So, either Transubstantiation is a false teaching or Jesus is not the Messiah.

Personally, I believe that Jesus is the Messiah and that the Church simply got it wrong. Comments?

Matthew 5:19

Here's what I want everyone who reads this to do.  Go to your Bible and read this verse, read it by itself, read it in context, read it every day.  Ponder it, ask God to reveal to you what it means and the eternal implications of it.  Ask Him how this is supposed to apply to you and your life and ministry.  I will post again about this in about a week.  In the meantime, please feel free to leave notes and comments about what God is speaking to you about/through this particular verse in Scripture.  For those who either do not have a Bible, or simply don't have one handy, here is Matthew 5:19 as found in the Complete Jewish Bible translation (clarification of vocabulary in parentheses is mine).

Matthew 5:19 - "So whoever disobeys the least of these mitzvot (Commandments/Laws of Torah) and teaches others to do so will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven.  But whoever obeys them and so teaches will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven."

Please Pray

Well, there is a lot to ask for prayer about right now...

The synagogue is down to 5 members...

Diamond is either totally incompetent or is trying to screw me over by canceling my health insurance as of the end of December and not notifying the company and offering COBRA continuing coverage within 30 days as is required by federal law.

Neither Dan nor I have jobs yet, we have applied at several places, but no one will hire me because no one wants to take on a pregnant woman... and rent/bills are due.

To make all this worse, I am overly emotional right now because of the stupid pregnancy hormones!

If you have bad news, please, don't call me... If you have good news, I could really use some right now.

I'm Back!

Ok, to say that a lot has happened since my last post would be the understatement of the century. Where to start...

Well, ok, first off, I'm pregnant, due date of June 24, 2008.  It is too soon to know the sex yet, but rest assured that we will be finding out and spreading the word.

Secondly, I am no longer working at Diamond.  It is a long story and the official reason for me leaving is for medical reasons. Call me if you want more details.

Since I am not working at Diamond anymore, Dan and I will be moving back to Springfield within the next few weeks and looking for jobs, so if you know of some, please let me know.

The synagogue has been going through a rough patch. Again, if you want more details, call me.

Prayers right now would be greatly appreciated, life is a bit rough right now, but, with God's help, we will make it through just fine.

I promise that postings will be at more frequent intervals soon.

Dresses and Colors and Vows, oh MY!

I'M GETTING MARRIED!!!!!!

We are just under 2 weeks out from the big day, and I realized that I haven't blogged once about the engagement or wedding yet.  I apologize profusely for forgetting you!  It is at Gateway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Springfield.  We are registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart, Sears, and Home Depot.  (the links will take you directly to our registries) The date is September 23, 2007, but don't be too upset if you cannot make it, we will be holding a duplicate ceremony/renewal of vows on our Hebrew 1st anniversary which is October 10, 2008.  To calm your fears, no, I am not pregnant, we just didn't see the point in torturing ourselves for a year if we already knew we were going to get married.
